LEC JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title:  Kitchen Hand.
Department:  QM.
Grade:  12
Full / Part Time:  Full. Flexible Shift pattern (including evenings and weekends).
Location:  QMs Catering Dept
Reporting To:  QM, CATWO, 

Generic description of duties:

To work with the kitchen team to produce food for the unit to the highest standard daily for BATUK under direction of the Catering Warrant Officer /Head Chef.

Main duties:
  1. Wash and clean utensils and dishes, return to the Kitchen and make sure they are stored appropriately.
  2. Clean food preparation equipment, floors and other kitchen tools or areas, as detail on cleaning schedule.
  3. Follow all hygiene and Health and Safety regulations within the Kitchen.
  4. Ensure proper use of chemical /cleaning products and ensure they are stored appropriately.
  5. Assist the chef in the preparation of food and packed meals, as required.
  6. Ensure dining and service areas are set up and cleaned ready for each service
Secondary duties:
  1. Clean up spillages when they occur.
  2. Dispose of rubbish.
  3. Follow instructions from the chef or nominee.
  4. To deploy on exercises and work away from base location when required.
  5. Carry out any other duties commensurate with the trade / grade as directed by the MLM.

  2. Essential:
      1. Basic food hygiene.
      2. Fit to handle food certification.
      3. A good understanding of written and verbal English.
      4. You promote diversity and fair treatment for everyone. You are open, honest and polite in dealing with other people. You answer questions readily and listen to the views and opinions of others.
  3. Desirable:
      1. Experience of working within an organisation as a kitchen hand for two years.
      2. Experience of working with COSHH.

Training Requirements:

  1. Security cleared.
  2. COSHH.
  3. Manual handling.
  4. Health and hygiene refresher course.

  1. The candidates will be tested against 3 competences as well as the testing of technical (job related) knowledge.
